Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath believes his team’s strong start in the T20 Blast validates the county’s innovative ‘Dad’s Army’ recruitment strategy.
Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali, 38, alongside Australian pace bowler AJ Tye, 39, have been signed to T20-only contracts, and the club has opened its T20 Blast campaign with two straight victories in the North Group.
Moeen struck a half‑century, and together with fellow newcomer Hasan Ali, they guided Yorkshire to a dramatic two‑wicket winexternal over Derbyshire, building on the opening victory achieved against Nottinghamshire.
McGrath noted, ‘We have a strong core of emerging players gaining valuable experience, though they are still developing at the highest level. The combined tally of over 1,000 T20 appearances by Moeen Ali, AJ Tye, and Hasan Ali is a priceless asset for mentorship.’
‘Our aim is not merely to win matches; we are here to nurture the next generation by sharing insights and experiences that can only be gained through extensive professional play.’
‘This approach guided our recruitment decisions.’
‘The early success is encouraging, and we hope the veteran players will continue to influence games while accelerating the development of our younger squad.’
