Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with CIA Director John Ratcliffe at Shannon Airport in Ireland, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The encounter took place on Monday, one source said, while another said the two spoke informally as their aircraft were being refueled, without providing a specific date. Both sources, who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive matters, declined to share details of the conversation.
The meeting occurred as Zelensky was traveling to New York for the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations. Ratcliffe was returning from a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, one source said.
Ratcliffe’s talks with Zelensky came less than a month after the CIA director traveled to Moscow to meet senior Russian intelligence officials.
