Ukraine’s wartime government is undergoing another restructuring following the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on Sunday. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he has proposed a “new, important” role for her as he reorganizes his administration amid the continuing conflict with Russia.
Svyrydenko confirmed her departure in a social media statement, expressing pride in leading the government “during one of the most difficult periods in Ukraine’s modern history.” She noted that she had reviewed “next steps” with Zelenskyy but did not reveal her forthcoming position.
“I remain ready to serve the Ukrainian state and carry out every task aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s position, defending our national interests and bringing a just peace closer,” Svyrydenko wrote.
Zelenskyy, who has stayed in office under martial law since wartime elections are suspended, characterized the transition as part of a broader evolution in Ukraine’s governance approach.
“Ukraine is changing its political strategy,” Zelenskyy posted on social media, explaining that he had asked Svyrydenko to head “a new, important area” within Ukraine’s relations with a significant international partner.

The Ukrainian president indicated that each major foreign policy domain will be entrusted to a seasoned official tasked with implementing agreements made with international leaders and promoting the interests of the Ukrainian populace. He also signaled upcoming changes to the nation’s senior law enforcement leadership, though specifics were not immediately disclosed.
This reorganization represents the fourth significant overhaul of Zelenskyy’s government since Russia’s full-scale invasion, underscoring the president’s ongoing efforts to revitalize his wartime cabinet.

Svyrydenko, formerly Ukraine’s economy minister, was appointed prime minister in July 2025 at age 39 after playing a pivotal role in brokering a minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States. The accord was broadly seen as a mechanism to bolster U.S. economic stakes in Ukraine while cementing Washington’s long-term security commitment to the country.

After the announcement, Zelenskyy convened with several senior officials—including Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, and Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov—suggesting that further governmental changes may be imminent.
