2026 Emmys: ‘The Pitt’s’ Noah Wyle Wins Lead Actor In A Drama Series

Noah Wyle Secures Second Emmy for Lead Role in ’The Pitt’ at 78th Primetime Emmys

It appears that Noah Wyle’s first Emmy win last year for HBO Max’s The Pitt will be matched by a second award in the same category: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. (He also accepted a trophy as executive producer for last year’s Outstanding Drama Series win.)

Wyle won the award at tonight’s ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, for his portrayal of the burnt‑out ER doctor, Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, on the critically acclaimed medical drama The Pitt.

Also nominated in the category were Sterling K. Brown (Hulu’s Paradise), Gary Oldman (AppleTV’s Slow Horses), Mark Ruffalo (HBO Max’s Task), and Rufus Sewell (Netflix’s The Diplomat).

Wyle, who also serves as executive producer and director for the series, was on hand to receive the award, thanking fellow nominees, especially Oldman. He said, “I have to tell you, I don’t know an actor my age that didn’t look at *Sid and Nancy* and think, ‘That’s the benchmark I want to hit one day in my career.’”

He thanked the cast, creatives, and crew of the series, “To all the men and women who work so hard on Stage 22 every day, we’ll be back there tomorrow morning — really early.”

Wyle, who grew up in Los Angeles, told the audience, “I’m a Holly‑wood kid. I was raised [with a] television, and movie theaters were my place of worship. This is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and this is the only club I’ve ever wanted.”

Wyle has never been nominated for an Emmy Award in his career, winning his first last year for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Pitt. In addition to this year’s Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series win, he’s been nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for The Pitt’s episode 6, titled “12:00 P.M.” He previously was nominated five times for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role on ER.

With this win, he joins five actors—Bryan Cranston (*Breaking Bad*), Daniel J. Travanti (*Hill Street Blues*), Bill Cosby (*I Spy*) and E.G. Marshall (*The Defenders*)—who have secured first‑season wins for the same show in consecutive years.

Beyond his own performance, Wyle has championed health‑care workers, urging increased funding, expanded mental‑health resources, fair compensation, tax credits, and stronger protections through legislation.

Created by writer‑producer R. Scott Gemmill and executive‑produced by John Wells and Wyle, The Pitt is a tribute to frontline and healthcare professionals and the challenges they encounter, especially in the wake of the COVID‑19 pandemic. Gemmill, Wells, and Wye L previously collaborated on the 1994 Emmy‑winning series ER. The show won Outstanding Drama Series last year and is now up for the same honor. The series also captured four Creative Emmy Awards last week, including Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Ernest Harden Jr., Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series.

The Pitt’s third season is in production, set to premiere in January 2027 on HBO Max.
