The 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams organized into 12 groups, a format making its debut in tournament history.
Co-hosts Mexico, United States, and Canada are seeded in Groups A, B, and D respectively. Scotland is placed in Group C alongside Brazil, Morocco, and Haiti, while England faces a tough group with Croatia, Ghana, and Panama.
The top two teams from each group, plus the eight best third‑place finishers, will advance to the inaugural round of 32. Consequently, a mere three points could be sufficient for certain teams to progress to the knockout round.
A total of 104 matches will be played, 40 more than at the 2022 Qatar tournament, and both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are expected to appear on this stage for what may be their final World Cup appearances.
Below you will find a complete list of fixtures, results, and the latest group standings:
The tournament opened at Mexico City’s iconic Azteca Stadium, the very venue where Diego Maradona delivered his legendary — and contentious — goals against England in 1986.
Azteca also hosted two historic World Cup finals: Brazil’s 4‑1 victory over Italy in 1970, highlighted by Carlos Alberto’s celebrated team goal, and Argentina’s 3‑2 win over West Germany in 1986, decided by Jorge Burruchaga’s 84th‑minute heroics.
Mexico and Canada will each host 13 matches, while the United States will stage 78 games.
From the quarter‑finals onward, the United States will host every remaining match, culminating in the final at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
Who Will Lift the 2026 Trophy?
The ultimate question in football returns, sparking intense debate. England’s emerging golden generation, Argentina as defending champions, France’s formidable depth, and Spain’s promising young squad all present compelling cases for glory.
Now it’s your turn: which team do you predict will triumph?
