2026 NFL Week 1 DFS: DraftKings Main-Slate GPP and Cash Game Strategy

Week 1 DFS has arrived, bringing an early opportunity to capitalize on salaries that were established in July. Because those prices do not fully reflect offseason changes, identifying undervalued players and emerging value plays is especially important.

Everyone is working with the same limited information and using last season as the primary baseline. Since the NFL reduced the preseason to three games, Week 1 scoring has gone under the projected point total about 60% of the time historically. That trend is useful context, though it should not override player-specific analysis.

Do not automatically avoid popular selections. Use highly owned players when their roles and salaries justify the exposure, while seeking differentiation at other positions.

DraftKings Main Slate Overview

The main slate features 12 games. Begin by deciding whether the lineup is designed for cash games or tournaments, then determine whether the player pool will be built primarily around game environments, individual matchups or a combination of both.

Game Environment

A game-environment approach considers the broader context of a contest, including expected tempo, game script and total scoring potential.

This strategy usually focuses on games with over/under totals above 47 points. Although other Week 1 matchups could develop shootout conditions, the following games currently carry the market’s highest projected scoring totals.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cincinnati Bengals (-3.5), 50.5

New Orleans Saints at Detroit Lions (-7), 49.5

Chicago Bears (-3) at Carolina Panthers, 47.5

Baltimore Ravens (-3.5) at Indianapolis Colts, 47.5

Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Chargers (-9.5), 47.5

The Chargers have the highest implied team total on the slate.

Individual Matchups

A matchup-based approach prioritizes individual assignments, projected usage and scoring opportunities over the broader game script.

GPP Tournaments

Tournament lineups require differentiation. Popular players can still be included, but lower-owned selections and stack combinations should provide leverage. Ownership projections are courtesy of One Week Season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cincinnati Bengals

The 50.5-point total makes this an obvious stacking candidate, although the historical Week 1 tendency toward unders warrants some caution.

QB Baker Mayfield, $5,900 (4.58%); WR Chris Godwin, $5,200 (6.82%) / WR Ja’Marr Chase, $7,800 (30.0%); WR Tee Higgins, $6,300 (11.68%)

Mayfield is 3-0 in Week 1 games as Tampa Bay’s quarterback, with nine touchdown passes, no interceptions and a 114.5 passer rating. Burrow, meanwhile, is 2-4 in Week 1 appearances, with five touchdown passes, five interceptions and a 76.4 passer rating.

This construction leaves $4,960 for each of the remaining five roster spots.

New Orleans Saints at Detroit Lions

This indoor matchup features two teams that maintained busy offensive tempos last season. New Orleans ranked 10th with 63.2 offensive plays per game, while Detroit ranked 14th at 62.5.

QB Tyler Shough, $5,600 (9.11%); WR Devaughn Vele, $3,500 (6.99%); TE Juwan Johnson, $3,700 (11.37%) / RB Jahmyr Gibbs, $8,000 (44.59%); WR Jameson Williams, $6,000 (8.98%)

Jordyn Tyson will not play, creating another potential opportunity for Johnson. With Tyson unavailable last season, Johnson averaged six targets per game and finished with 102 targets and 77 receptions. He ranked fifth among tight ends with 362 yards after the catch and recorded a 21% first-read target share for a team that ranked fourth in pass plays per game.

This lineup leaves $5,800 for each of the remaining four positions.

Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers

TE Colston Loveland, $5,300 (9.17%) / WR Tetairoa McMillan, $6,100 (9.65%)

There is less conviction in stacking this game, but the possibility remains intriguing. Bears head coach Ben Johnson has identified the 2013 Denver Broncos’ record of 37.9 points per game as a seasonal benchmark for his offense.

Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis Colts

QB Lamar Jackson, $6,800 (5.54%); Baltimore Defense, $3,000 (3.02%)

Jesse Minter takes over as Baltimore’s head coach, with Declan Doyle serving as offensive coordinator. Indianapolis returns its 2025 core. One key battle to monitor is Ravens center Jovaugh Gwyn against Colts defenders DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart.

This pairing leaves $5,743 for each of the remaining seven roster spots. Both selections are projected below 10% ownership, providing exposure to core players without relying heavily on chalk.

Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Chargers

QB Jacoby Brissett, $5,100 (1.61%); WR Marvin Harrison Jr., $5,000 (5.86%) / RB Omarion Hampton, $6,800 (12.79%)

Playing from behind frequently in 2025 pushed the Cardinals toward a pass-heavy approach. With Brissett at quarterback, they averaged a league-leading 41.6 pass plays per game and ranked third in pace at 2.07.

Arizona has a new head coach in Mike LaFleur and a new offensive coordinator in Nathaniel Hackett. First-round selection Jeremiyah Love is also expected to play after an ankle injury limited his preseason work.

This construction leaves $5,517 across the remaining six roster spots.

Cash Games

Cash-game strategy should emphasize predictable roles, favorable matchups and dependable production rather than maximum lineup differentiation.

QB Justin Herbert, $6,100 (10.19%); RB Jahmyr Gibbs, $8,000 (44.59%); TE Michael Mayer, $2,900 (31.65%)

One Week Season projects Herbert for 20.08 fantasy points with a 28.26-point ceiling. Gibbs projects for 22.92 points with a 30.36-point ceiling, while Mayer projects for 7.58 points with a 12.58-point ceiling.

This build leaves $5,500 for each of the remaining six positions.

Week 1 DFS Strategy

Week 1 projections rely heavily on previous-season data, making them inherently uncertain. July salary prices can nevertheless create opportunities by narrowing the informational gap between casual players and experienced DFS competitors.

In GPPs, differentiation does not require fading every popular player. Lower-owned supporting pieces and creative stack construction can provide leverage while retaining reliable core selections.

For cash games, prioritize a strong floor while maintaining enough upside to clear the payout threshold.
