San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa is once again sidelined by an injury.

ESPN reports that Bosa suffered a calf strain during practice on Thursday and will miss several weeks. The team has not yet decided whether to place him on injured reserve.

Bosa has recorded seven combined tackles through two games. The 49ers are 2-0, beating the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 in Australia and the Miami Dolphins 35-13 at home. Next, they host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET on FOX.

Bosa’s Injury History

Injuries have been a recurring theme throughout Bosa’s NFL career since 2019.

The current calf injury follows a torn ACL that ended his 2025 season in Week 3. He missed three games in 2024 with a hip issue, suffered a torn ACL in the second game of the 2020 season, and played only three games in his final college season at Ohio State (2018) due to a core muscle injury.

Additionally, Bosa played through an ankle injury early in his 2019 rookie campaign.

Career Accolades

When healthy, Bosa has been one of the NFL’s top pass rushers. In 2022, he led the league with 18.5 sacks, earning All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year honors. The previous season, he recorded 15.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in the regular season plus four more in the playoffs.

He was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 with nine sacks and 47 tackles, adding four sacks in the postseason. Bosa ranks fifth in 49ers history with 64.5 sacks and tied for seventh with 13 forced fumbles.
