A 5.4‑magnitude earthquake rattled several regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad on Monday.
Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the quake struck at 3:22 pm, with a depth of 215 kilometres and an epicentre in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
The tremor was felt in Peshawar, Islamabad, Mansehra, Swat, Battagram, Abbottabad and other nearby areas.
Following the event, a spokesperson for Rescue 1122 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa advised residents to contact the helpline immediately if they experience an emergency.
Earlier in April, a 5.7‑magnitude earthquake affected Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while a subsequent 6.1‑magnitude quake also hit the Hindu Kush region, causing additional tremors.
Pakistan sits at the convergence of the Arabian, Euro‑Asian and Indian tectonic plates, creating five seismic zones across the country. The intersection of multiple fault lines results in frequent tectonic activity in the region.
