8BitDo Unveils the Arcade Controller Pro: A New Standard for Fighting Game Enthusiasts

Building on its first leverless design last year, 8BitDo introduces a refined control scheme tailored for dedicated fighting game players and newcomers seeking button-centric gameplay. The Arcade Controller Pro retains its distinctive rectangular form but prioritizes precision over casual aesthetics.

The controller’s physical layout emphasizes button density and ergonomic placement. Unlike its predecessor, which targeted a broader audience, this iteration focuses on competitive scenarios. The streamlined button arrangement allows for faster inputs while maintaining comfort during extended sessions.

A key addition is the fifth programmable button positioned on the left edge, expanding mapping possibilities without compromising hand placement. A compact on-panel display handles input feedback, battery monitoring, and instant menu access—a feature absent in the original model.

Mechanical upgrades include hot-swappable switches and universal button caps that can be installed from any angle. The Pro bundles both round and flat-lock caps (five total) to reduce accidental presses. Beyond hardware, the Ultimate Software V2 enables advanced customization, including macro creation and button remapping.

For wired users (available on Windows and Switch), a reinforced metal latch secures the USB-C cable even during movement. Wireless functionality remains via 2.4G for PC or Bluetooth for Switch, with RGB customization potentially reducing battery life to approximately 15 hours. A magnetic wrist rest is included to enhance stability during gameplay.
