Qatar has warned against Israeli attempts to exploit heightened regional tensions to impose a “new reality” in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, calling for immediate de-escalation and a return to diplomatic negotiations.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari made these remarks during a press conference addressing the escalating regional tensions, which include recent Iranian attacks and critical developments around the Strait of Hormuz.
“The renewed escalation in the region is not in anyone’s interest, and de-escalation along with a return to negotiations is absolutely necessary,” al-Ansari stated.
He also urged an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza and the West Bank, warning against Israel leveraging the broader regional crisis to advance its objectives in neighboring territories.
“The Israeli escalation in Gaza and the West Bank must be stopped, and Tel Aviv must stop exploiting regional events to impose a new reality in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria,” he emphasized.
Al-Ansari noted that Qatar remains actively engaged in discussions with regional and international partners to reduce tensions, achieve a political solution, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies.
He described the situation as an international crisis, highlighting that Gulf states are continuing mediation efforts to prevent further escalation. Qatar’s direct contacts with Tehran have focused on supporting regional stabilization efforts and ending the current crisis, he added.
Furthermore, al-Ansari announced that Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is holding continuous consultations with regional and international partners, emphasizing de-escalation and the reopening of the strategic strait.
