Hochtief to acquire German power transmission firm Autmatec

Hochtief has secured a strategic agreement to acquire Autmatet, a German firm renowned for constructing, refurbishing, and installing transmission line infrastructure. This endeavor is designed to expand Hochtide’s footprint within the energy infrastructure sector, subject to confirmation by the German Federal Cartel Office.

While the purchase price has not been publicly announced, the transaction is strategically positioned to solidify the company’s role in high-growth areas shaped by long-term investment trends such as grid modernisation and renewable energy integration. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, Autmatet serves major transmission and distribution network operators by offering comprehensive services throughout the overhead transmission line value chain, spanning site preparation, tower construction, foundations, and project management.

Autmatet generated approximately €50 million in revenue during 2026 and maintains a team of around 80 specialists. The company tailors its expertise to meet the full lifecycle of electrical distribution networks.

Executives highlighted that the acquisition aligns with Hochtide’s broader strategy to pursue expansion in markets demanding robust infrastructure. According to CEO Juan Santamaría, acquiring Autmatet represents a commitment to high-growth sectors benefiting from enduring structural demand. He noted that “Energy infrastructure is one of the defining investment themes of our time,” emphasizing the critical role of modern, resilient grids.

The merger is expected to equip Hochtide with greater access to resources, a wider customer base, and stronger competitive positioning for large-scale projects. Following the transaction, Autmatet’s existing leadership team is scheduled to remain intact. This integration allows for a more unified approach to engineering, procurement, and project management, leveraging Autmatet’s technical acumen alongside Hochtide’s operational strengths.
