Pakistan’s KSE-100 Secures Modest Gain After Three Consecutive Declining Sessions
The Pakistan Stock Exchange ended trading on Thursday with a slight gain, snapping a three-session losing streak. The benchmark KSE-100 index closed at 174,929.69 points, gaining 153 points, or 0.09%.
Dawn reported heightened volatility as traders grappled with middle‑East conflicts and political uncertainty. According to Topline Securities, the index briefly surged intraday to 175,796.25 points—1,019 points above its previous close.
Fluctuations during trading
Late in the session, profit‑takers trimmed positions, pulling the index down to an intraday low of 174,893.68 points—117 points higher than the prior closing level—but the market ultimately finished with a modest gain.
Analysts note that the broader geopolitical turbulence is influencing global energy markets. Rising international oil prices raise concerns for investors worried about impacts on Pakistan’s external accounts, inflation and macro‑economic stability.
Impact of companies and investor activity
Bearish movers included Bank Al‑Habib, United Bank, Pakistan Petroleum, Service Industries and Attock Refinery, whose combined shortfall eroded roughly 196 points. Conversely, Engro Holdings, Lucky Cement and National Bank added about 167 points, supporting the index.
Deputy head of trading Ali Najib, of Arif Habib Ltd, stated that market sentiment remained mixed amid intensified reciprocal strikes involving the United States and Iran. He highlighted Iranian attacks on commercial vessels alongside U.S. operations against IRGC facilities, noting that oil prices kept climbing.
Total shares traded reached 627 million, yet the aggregate value declined 20.94% to Rs 25.18 billion. Tasdeeq Information led trading volume at approximately 95 million shares.
A notable positive factor was Pakistan’s $3 billion raise via a two‑tranche eurobond issuance—the country’s largest single‑transaction sovereign bond offering to date.
