New Delhi Hosts Quad Sherpas Meeting to Advance Indo-Pacific Cooperation

India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, hosted the Quad Sherpas’ meeting in New Delhi on 3 September 2026. Attendees included Elly Lawson, Deputy Secretary of the Strategic Planning & Coordination Group at Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Hiroyuki Namazu, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan; and Sergio Gor, the United States Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asia.

The gathering built on the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in New Delhi on 26 May 2026, aiming to implement its outcomes and prepare for the next ministerial session.

Sherpas reviewed the progress of ongoing Quad initiatives and explored ways to deepen practical cooperation, reaffirming a shared commitment to a free and open Indo‑Pacific.

Discussions spanned maritime and transnational security, economic prosperity and security, critical and emerging technologies, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Participants also exchanged perspectives on recent developments across the Indo‑Pacific and the wider regional and global landscape.

The Sherpas stressed the need for concrete, action‑oriented initiatives and expressed anticipation for continued consultations leading up to the next Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
