Five former staff members of Hong Kong supermarket chain ParknShop and its contractor partners have pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud the company by falsifying employee attendance records, resulting in a loss of HK$3.2 million (US$408,000).
The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) announced on Friday that its investigation uncovered a two‑year scheme in which the former employees colluded with contractor personnel to manipulate attendance records for 13 warehouse workers who were not scheduled to work at the chain’s distribution centre.
The defendants — Lau Kin‑pong, 44, formerly senior supervisor at ParknShop’s eCommercial Distribution Centre; Tai Kin‑man, 43, former assistant manager of Earnward Warehouse; and three former warehouse staff from Logistics Network Management — Wong Wai‑fung (27), Wong Pak‑kan (28) and Lau Tsz‑pan (28) — all entered guilty pleas to conspiracy to defraud in the District Court on Friday.
The ICAC said the scheme was conducted at ParknShop’s eCommercial Distribution Centre, where logistics staff sorted online orders and packed goods for customer delivery.
Although the workers were supplied by the contractor Logistics Network Management, their activities were overseen by Earnward Warehouse.
According to the watchdog, Logistics Network Management processed wage payments and invoiced ParknShop based on reported shift hours, while daily attendance sheets were verified by the assistant manager of Earnward Warehouse.
