Airdrop Targets Trump Token Holders Who Lost Money

Hunter Biden is entering the cryptocurrency space by leveraging his own controversial history. The son of former President Joe Biden intends to launch the LAPTOP meme coin on September 9, according to a post published today on X.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Hunter Biden’s meme coin will trade on Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network—a faster, lower-cost blockchain developed by Coinbase in 2023 to operate alongside Ethereum.

The name is deliberate. LAPTOP refers to the laptop turned over by a Delaware repair shop in 2019, whose contents the New York Post published weeks before the 2020 election, sparking a political firestorm that dominated American discourse for years. The Journal reports that Biden is personally part of the founding team rather than merely lending his name to the project.
LAPTOP will mint 1 billion tokens total. Founders, including Biden, hold 30% of the supply, locked for six months and then gradually released over two years—a vesting schedule designed to prevent insiders from dumping tokens immediately upon launch.
Twenty percent of the total supply will cover charity donations, liquidity, exchange partner and market maker payments, and the accounting and legal costs of operating the token’s foundation.
The team also plans to burn 30% of the supply based on certain criteria, including Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high or a Democrat winning the 2028 election.
Another 20% of the tokens will be reserved for two rounds of airdrops—free token distributions to specific wallets—which represents the project’s primary competitive edge.

Eligibility for the airdrop extends to subscribers of Biden’s Substack and members of Andrew Callaghan’s Channel 5 mailing list. Another tranche is reserved for traders who lost money on TRUMP, President Donald Trump’s own meme coin. This represents a substantial pool, given the coin’s sustained bearish trend since launch.
Entities tied to the Trump Organization control 80% of TRUMP’s supply under a multi-year vesting schedule. Consequently, both the president’s meme coin and Biden’s counterpart concentrate the majority of their tokens in founders’ hands.
