Manchester United could deploy Patrick Dorgu at left‑back for Thursday’s Champions League match against Sabah.
The 21‑year‑old has featured mainly as a left winger under Michael Carrick this season, but he is expected to revert to his customary defensive role for the encounter.
Luke Shaw has been a permanent fixture at left‑back for the Red Devils, starting every Premier League game since the start of last season. However, Carrick is likely to keep him on the bench for the mid‑week European tie to manage his workload amid the busy schedule.
Shaw missed training earlier today due to fatigue and may only appear as a substitute, allowing Dorgu to take the left‑back position from the start.
Among other options, Benjamin Sesko, Andrey Santos and Noussair Mazraoui could also feature in the starting XI for the clash.
Carrick has hinted at possible rotation for the Champions League fixture, particularly with a domestic match against Manchester City scheduled for Sunday.
