Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy Delivers Intimate Cover of Twisted Teens

New Orleans-based outfit Twisted Teens are maintaining a prolific pace, recently announcing their third album of the year, The Holy Cross Tigers, following the releases of Blame The Clown in February and Florida Water Blues in July. In a show of support for the band, Jeff Tweedy recently shared a cover of “Wild Connection” from Blame The Clown via his Substack.

The Wilco frontman frequently utilizes his newsletter to showcase stripped-down interpretations of tracks he admires, having previously covered Star Moles’ “Real Magic” and Cameron Winter’s “Love Takes Miles.” Reflecting on his rendition of “Wild Connection,” Tweedy noted:

I’m back from Europe and sharing a song by Twisted Teens. I recommended a different record of theirs recently. I like a lot of their songs and I like Caspian’s voice. I had trouble not trying to sing like him. That happens with a lot of the voices of singers I like. When I play their songs, I’m trying really hard not to do an imitation. But one of the reasons I do so many cover songs is that I think it’s good to hear something you like and then see what it feels like to try it on, almost like clothes. Sometimes it feels right, sometimes it feels like I’m trying to find a way into sounding like myself.

On this one, I think I still sound like myself. I actually kind of feel like I maybe sound like a younger version of myself.
