The NXT Champion Responds to Grayson Waller on TNA Criticism

Leon Slater has responded to Grayson Waller’s recent remarks about TNA Wrestling since his return to WWE NXT, where Waller has taken aim at the promotion and previously criticized figures such as former world champion Cruz Montana.

During an interview on Counted Out (video below), Slater addressed Waller’s statements and stated that he does not find much credibility in them unless Waller backs them up inside a TNA ring.

“I’ve seen it. I’ve seen it and until that brother comes over and tests himself against some TNA talent, it’s all just talk to me,” Slater explained. “He can claim, ‘You are good at TNA.’ Remember that other line about ‘it’s like being the best in a high school gym’, right? To me, everything that’s said is just talk. To me, it’s completely empty rhetoric.”

Slater emphasized that the promotion’s in‑ring product sets the standard; if anyone makes a claim, actions speak louder than words. He declared, “In TNA, despite the pun, the intensity is continuous. There is no talking alone—if something is said, the performance follows. Anyone who boasts about becoming the youngest X Division Champion will embody that achievement immediately; similarly, a promise of a World Championship spot will be earned through action.”

Slater then turned the challenge back on Waller, demanding verbal pushback before any physical proof could be made.

“Until he crosses the line—which could mean approaching me in the face, confronting Frankie Kazarian, or facing Nic Nemeth—and openly telling us we fall short, I don’t believe a single word he says,” Slater continued. “That individual can perform well for clout—or for viewership—but without committing to results first, all his words amount to nonsense.”

When asked if he would entertain a match between Slater and Waller if the NXT Champion traveled to TNA, he answered unequivocally.

“Absolutely, absolutely. I’ve already journeyed across the divide and found significant success working alongside him. We have accomplished tag team championship bouts, NXT titles, and WWE and United States championships together. I know I’ve mastered environments that may seem unfamiliar. Yet, I remain undeterred and prepared regardless of which brand presents herself next.”

Slater stressed he would be keen to witness whether Waller would maintain the same hostile demeanor should he ever stand face‑to‑face with him in a TNA venue.

“Therefore, I would be highly interested in seeing Grayson Waller deliver that same talk and retain that confidence should they appear in front of me inside a TNA ring—it would certainly be compelling.”

As of now, Waller stands as the NXT Champion, while Slater is gearing up for a potential TNA World Championship opportunity at Bound For Glory.
