Yaga, the forthcoming contemporary mystery-thriller series reimagining the myth of Baba Yaga, will premiere in the U.S. on Friday, October 23, exclusively on AMC+. The first two episodes will launch together, followed by one new episode each Friday and a two-episode finale on Friday, November 27.
Yaga will make its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Thursday, September 17. A panel featuring exclusive content will follow at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 9.
Starring Noah Reid, Hudson Williams, Clark Backo and Carrie-Anne Moss, Yaga is based on Kat Sandler’s hit play. Sandler also serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer. The series reimagines the witch, traditionally depicted as living in a hut on chicken legs and appearing either as a murderous seductress or a powerful enchantress, depending on the tale. It follows Rapp (Reid), a private investigator who travels to the small coastal town of Whittock to investigate the disappearance of Henry Park (Williams), a young heir to a powerful fishery. Rapp clashes with local detective Carson (Backo), charismatic university professor Katherine (Moss), and a web of enigmatic suspects, hidden lives and ancient magic.
A teaser released during Comic-Con used quick cuts to introduce the series’ characters, including Williams, in compromising and dangerous situations involving desire, blood sacrifice and feathers associated with the witch.
The additional cast includes Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle and Hiro Kanagawa, along with Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris and Sam Krochmal.
A Crave Original series, Yaga is produced by Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures in association with Bell Media, with participation from the Canada Media Fund (CMF), the Rogers Series Fund and the Bell Fund. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay serve as co-directors. Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller and Carrie-Anne Moss are executive producers, and Charles Cooper is producer.
The series is distributed internationally by Sphere Abacus, a Bell Media company, and was exclusively acquired by AMC Global Media for AMC+ in the United States.
