Macklemore Announces $1 Million Donation to Palestinian Aid Groups, Extends Challenge to Robert Kraft

Macklemore announced plans to donate $1 million of his earnings from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour to six organizations supporting Palestinians, while inviting Robert Kraft to match the contribution. The announcement follows Macklemore’s removal from the tour after venues refused to host the event with him as an opener, following his advocacy for Palestinian rights during a recent performance in New Jersey.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Macklemore emphasized the need to center attention on Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, stating, “Whatever we disagree about, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives are worth protecting. A Palestinian life is no less valuable than any other life on this earth.” Kraft publicly confirmed his decision to bar Macklemore from performing at Gillette Stadium, citing the rapper’s “antisemitic rhetoric and imagery,” though Macklemore claims Kraft orchestrated broader efforts to pressure Sheeran into removing him from the tour.

The six beneficiaries include the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, HEAL Palestine, Gaza Soup Kitchen, Medical Aid for Palestinians, the United Nations Relief Work Agency USA, and Anera. Macklemore highlighted the urgent needs of families and healthcare workers in Gaza, stating, “I want to center the organizers and activists who have paid real costs for standing with Palestine. Their risk is of a far different order than mine.” He framed the donation as a minimal act of solidarity for an issue he believes requires immediate political reform to address systemic injustice in Palestinian communities.

The controversy intensified after pro-Israel groups criticized Macklemore’s performance at MetLife Stadium, where he displayed pro-Palestinian visuals and declared “Free Palestine.” Following his removal from the tour, openers Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe, and Beoga withdrawn, alongside Finneas’ cancellation of the South American leg. Sheeran cited his inability to bridge differing viewpoints as the reason for Macklemore’s departure, while the tour continues without the rapper.

As of Wednesday, the Loop Tour remains scheduled for its next show in Philadelphia on September 19, despite ongoing debates over Macklemore’s advocacy and Kraft’s involvement in the tour’s restructuring. Numerous public figures have voiced support for Macklemore, condemning what they view as political retaliation targeting his stance on Palestinian rights.
