Apple customers may qualify for payments of up to $95 per device under a proposed $250 million class action settlement over claims that the company misled consumers about the availability of AI features on recent iPhones.
Apple reached the agreement this spring to resolve a lawsuit alleging that the rollout of artificial intelligence and Siri-related capabilities did not meet expectations created by the launch of the iPhone 16.
The lawsuit says the September 2024 introduction of iPhone 16 models established a clear and reasonable expectation that AI functionality would be added to the devices. Although Apple Intelligence was released that year, the lawsuit alleges that the integration of ChatGPT with Siri and an emoji-generation feature did not meet those expectations.
Under the proposed settlement, valid claims would generally provide $25 per eligible device. That amount could be reduced or increased, up to a cap of $95 per device, depending on the total number of valid claims submitted.

Customers seeking compensation must be U.S. residents who purchased an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025.
Applicants must also acknowledge that they expected, at the time of purchase, to receive certain Siri Apple Intelligence features on their device that were not available.
To receive a payment, eligible customers must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 21, 2026. A claim may be filed for each qualifying device.

The claimant must have been the original purchaser of each covered device and may not have bought it for resale. Businesses may also submit claims for eligible devices they purchased.
The settlement website says claims will be rejected if they are incomplete, contain false information or are submitted after the deadline.
Claim forms must include current contact details and confirm that the class member purchased an eligible device during the June 10, 2024, to March 29, 2025, period and expected it to include Siri Apple Intelligence features. Applicants must also provide information verifying the purchase and ownership of the device.
Approved claims will be paid by physical or digital check after the settlement receives final court approval. Payment could be delayed if the agreement is appealed, although the settlement website says payments would be processed promptly if no further appeals are filed.
A final approval hearing is scheduled for Feb. 24, 2027, in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Jose.
At the hearing, the court will consider whether the settlement is fair, reasonable and adequate, along with any objections filed by class members.
