Zach Ertz Returns to Eagles Following Dallas Goedert Injury

Philadelphia welcomes back a beloved former player.

According to multiple reports, veteran tight end Zach Ertz has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles, marking his return to the franchise where he spent nine seasons. Ertz will initially join the practice squad before transitioning to the 53-man roster.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero indicated that Ertz could be promoted to the active roster in time for the Eagles’ upcoming “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Chicago Bears.

The highly anticipated reunion, first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, comes at a crucial time as the Eagles manage an injury to starting tight end Dallas Goedert.

Dallas Goedert suffered a sprained MCL and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks, according to multiple reports.

The Philadelphia tight end exited Sunday’s 24-20 victory over the Titans during the second quarter, where he was targeted twice and recorded a single catch for four yards.

Ertz spent the past two seasons with the Washington Commanders before his 2025 campaign was cut short due to a torn ACL in his right knee suffered during a December 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

At 35 years old, Ertz returns to Philadelphia just 11 receptions shy of the Eagles’ franchise record of 589 career catches, a mark held by Pro Football Hall of Famer Harold Carmichael.

The veteran enjoyed significant success during his tenure with the Eagles, capturing a Super Bowl title in 2017 and earning three Pro Bowl selections between 2017 and 2019.

The Eagles selected Ertz in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, and he remained with the franchise until his mid-season trade to the Arizona Cardinals in 2021.

He played for two and a half seasons in Arizona before signing with the Commanders in 2024.
