X has simplified the process for U.S. users to act on cryptocurrency and stock discussions appearing in their timelines, enabling trades without requiring them to exit the app.
This live feature enables U.S. users to tap a cashtag such as $BTC or $TSLA, view live charts and related posts, and then click the ‘Trade’ button. Selecting ‘Trade’ redirects users to one of X’s partner platforms, including Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini,
Kraken or Coinbase – where they can log in or sign up to execute their trades.
X facilitates quick action on financial discussions within the timeline without serving as a broker; all transactions occur through the partner exchanges.
Cashtags have long been a feature on X for tracking financial market conversations. Earlier this year, X enhanced them with real-time price data and interactive charts.
Introducing a direct trading pathway represents the next phase in Elon Musk’s vision to transform X into a comprehensive financial hub.
“Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself,” Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead, said.
