In premarket trading, several companies experienced significant stock movements, driven by earnings reports, analyst actions, and major deals.
Akamai Technologies saw its shares surge over 21% following the announcement of a seven-year power contract and an $11.6 billion deal with Anthropic. The agreement also includes a warrant that grants Anthropic the right to acquire up to approximately 5% of Akamai’s shares at an exercise price of $111.33 each.
Scholastic’s shares declined by more than 10% after the children’s book publisher reported a fiscal first-quarter loss. The company posted an adjusted loss of $3.63 per share, compared to a loss of $2.52 per share in the prior year, with revenue falling 4% to $216.8 million.
Synopsys gained over 3% in premarket trading after HSBC upgraded the software company to a buy rating from hold. Analyst Frank Lee noted that Synopsys’s new business model positions it as a high-growth beneficiary of artificial intelligence trends.
Nike’s shares slid nearly 2% following a downgrade by Bank of America to underperform from neutral. The bank cited expectations of sales declines from the second quarter through the remainder of fiscal 2027.
Costco Wholesale shares were slightly down despite reporting better-than-expected results for the fiscal fourth quarter. The company achieved an adjusted profit of $6.60 per share on revenue of $95.72 billion, surpassing analyst estimates of $6.53 per share and $94.86 billion in revenue.
