Manchester City is anticipated to receive a verdict on their Premier League financial breaches by the end of January, according to recent reports.
The decision will be made by an independent panel, though there is growing pressure from top-flight clubs for a particularly harsh penalty.
As reported by The Guardian, City’s rivals believe that mere relegation to the Championship would not suffice as punishment, given the gravity of the financial violations.
Although these clubs have no official role in the decision, their influence is expected to be significant as they advocate for City’s expulsion from the Premier League for multiple seasons.
Timeline of the Investigation and Appeal Process
The lengthy duration of this case has been frustrating for football fans worldwide, who must now wait several more months for clarity on City’s future.
Manchester City is likely to appeal the current ruling, with the appeal required to be submitted by this Friday.
Following the appeal, a hearing must be held within 12 weeks, after which a judgment will be delivered within an additional 30 days.
This process is inherently protracted, and City’s history of delaying tactics suggests they may employ similar strategies again.
The club continues to assert its innocence, a stance supported by former manager Pep Guardiola.
In a recent social media statement, Guardiola declared: “I want every single @ManCity fan to know I am here; more than ever. I am, always have been, always will, be behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters. Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all.”
