Two people were killed and at least 25 others were injured when gunfire broke out at a homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, in the early hours of Sunday, authorities said.
In a separate mass shooting over the weekend, a 12-year-old girl was killed and three other people were wounded after a gun battle erupted over a parking spot in a Baltimore park on Saturday, officials reported.
The Georgia shooting drew a crowd of more than 1,000 people, according to local sheriff Craig Peavy, who spoke with WMAZ. Gunfire was directed at roughly 50 attendees in two locations about a block apart, just after 1 a.m. on Sunday.
The two fatalities have not been publicly identified, and no suspects or motive have been disclosed. Peavy said approximately 25 people were hospitalized and as many as 35 may have been wounded.
In Baltimore, police commissioner Richard Worley said investigators are seeking two suspects after finding two different types of gun cartridges at the scene near a youth football event at Leon Day Park.
“There was some type of argument between two cowards, and of course they both opened fire on each other,” Worley said at a Saturday night news conference. “The dispute most likely started over a parking spot, and the two cowards pulled guns on each other.”
Worley said the 12-year-old girl, a bystander at a nearby field, was struck when one of the shooters “fired multiple rounds down range.”
A 25-year-old woman with the girl was also shot, along with two men, ages 23 and 28. None of the three wounded victims are believed to have life-threatening injuries, police said.
The 12-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics transported the woman to the hospital, while the two other victims walked into a nearby facility for treatment.
“Two grown men got into an argument, and now a 12-year-old is gone,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott told reporters. “What happened out here today is one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen in my life, because that baby was just out here at homecoming for this youth football league, trying to keep young people safe.”
According to the Gun Violence Archive, a nonpartisan reference resource, at least 355 mass shootings had been reported in the US by Sunday, the 277th day of 2026. The archive defines mass shootings as incidents in which at least four victims are killed or wounded.
The US continues to experience high rates of such shootings, prompting renewed calls for federal gun control measures. Congress has yet to pass substantive legislation on the issue.
