President Donald Trump declared Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to a massive diesel fuel shipment to global markets following what Trump described as a “highly successful discussion” between the two leaders.
According to a post on Truth Social, the arrangement calls for an immediate delivery of over 300,000 tons of diesel to the American and global marketplace, followed by 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons shortly after. Trump added that, based on the condition of Russian refineries, an additional 3 million tons would be delivered “within a short period of time.”
“Between our TOTAL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz, and this great announcement on Russian Energy, Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!” Trump wrote. He emphasized that lowering costs for farmers, ranchers, and truckers remains his “Greatest Priority.”

The announcement comes as diesel prices have surged amid ongoing conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, prompting pressure from Republicans for the administration to act before the November midterms. Earlier Friday at the White House, Trump predicted prices would “come tumbling” and that the situation in Iran would be resolved “soon one way or the other.”
He asserted U.S. naval dominance over the Strait of Hormuz, stating, “They have no military. They have no navy, they have no air force, they have no anti-aircraft. We took out yesterday 28 million barrels. I think we took out more than we’ve ever taken out at any other time, including before the war. The Hormuz Strait. The Navy, we put a blockade up, nobody gets through.”

Diesel prices recently hit a national average of $6.26 per gallon, triggering a wave of bankruptcy filings across the trucking and freight sectors last month. In a related move this week, Trump signed an executive order permitting the continued tax- and penalty-free use of red-dyed diesel—typically restricted to off-road applications—for highway use.
