Globo, the dominant force in Brazilian media, and Endemol Shine Brasil, a Banijay Latin America subsidiary, have established a strategic partnership focused on non-scripted intellectual property. The venture aims to develop and produce a new generation of Brazilian franchises designed to hold both global appeal and local relevance.
This agreement expands on a history of joint projects that yielded major hits such as “Big Brother Brasil,” “No Limite” (adapted from “Survivor”), “The Masked Singer,” “Dança dos Famosos” (“Dance of the Celebrities”), and “The Wall.” Both parties will maintain a significant presence at the upcoming Mipcom market.
The partnership merges Globo’s proven capacity to produce content engaging over 70 million Brazilians daily with Endemol Shine Brasil’s production expertise and its access to Banijay Entertainment’s global reach, forming a formidable combination.
Nani Freitas, CEO of Endemol Shine Brasil, highlighted the history of the relationship: “Our partnership with Globo extends back many years, to Endemol’s arrival in Brazil. Combining our expertise creates a powerful environment for developing culture-defining entertainment. It is therefore meaningful to take this next step and join forces from the start of the development process, creating formats with the potential to connect with audiences far beyond our market.”
Amauri Soares, Executive Director of Globo Studios, concurred: “Globo has been increasing investments in creative development hubs, connecting our talent with strategic partners to accelerate original format creation. By uniting Globo’s creativity with the international expertise of Endemol Shine Brasil and Banijay Entertainment, we are advancing our vision to transform our studios into a hub for Brazilian intellectual property with global reach.”
Under the deal, Globo will secure priority rights to exploit the new formats across its channels and platforms, while Endemol Shine Brasil will lead international expansion through Banijay Entertainment’s network of over 170 labels across 25 territories, providing a direct route to international markets.
Laurens Drillich, CEO of Banijay Latin America, commented: “Launching new original programming in our markets is notoriously difficult, which makes this partnership all the more significant. I am proud that Endemol Shine Brasil has the opportunity to do this with a major player like Globo, and I cannot thank Amauri enough for this great chance to collaborate.”
Endemol Shine Brasil has been aggressively broadening its production footprint across traditional, digital, and vertical microdramas.
In April, the company partnered with ReelShort to bring the microdrama platform’s top hit, “Married at First Sight,” to Brazil. It also joined forces with A Fábrica, a Banijay Americas company, to produce a slate of vertical-format microdramas.
Its new original docu-reality series, “Underground City” (“Cidade Subterrânea”), which explores São Paulo’s subway system, premiered on GNT and Globo’s streaming platform Globoplay, and also aired on TV Globo’s “Fantástico.”
Mipcom is scheduled to run from October 10-15.
