West Indies Elect to Bowl After Winning Toss in Crucial Third T20I vs India

West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and chose to bowl first in the third T20I against India at Holkar Stadium, Indore, on Sunday, October 11, 2026. With the five‑match series tied at 1‑1, the visitors aim to capitalize on their record‑setting chase in Ranchi and apply pressure on India in the lead‑up to the series decider.

India claimed the opening T20I by an eight‑wicket margin, but West Indies responded in the second game, chasing 250 in just 18.3 overs for a six‑wicket win. Shai Hope notched a century (102) and Sherfane Rutherford contributed a brisk 84, enabling the visitors to record the highest successful T20I chase in West Indies history.

IND vs WI 3rd T20I: Why did West Indies choose to bowl?

The prospect of dew forming later in the evening may have led Hope to opt for bowling first. A damp outfield could hinder bowling in the second innings, so West Indies plan to curb India’s scoring before pursuing a target under more favorable conditions.

Holkar Stadium is renowned for its batsman‑friendly pitch and short boundaries. In the four T20Is hosted there, the average first‑innings total has been just over 200 runs, suggesting a big score is likely if India’s batsmen get settled.

Although India have won three of the four T20Is played at this venue, their bowlers will need to improve after conceding 250 runs in Ranchi.

Both teams arrive with one win each in the series. India leads the overall T20I head‑to‑head record, having won 21 of their 33 encounters, while West Indies have secured 11 victories; one match ended without a result.

With the series delicately balanced, the third T20I provides each side a chance to seize momentum before the final two matches.
