Actress Selma Blair has faced two additional assault charges for allegedly kicking a police officer and a nurse after being removed from a flight.
She was arrested late Sunday in New York after allegedly assaulting flight attendants on a Delta flight traveling from Los Angeles to New York, and the FBI issued a federal summons accusing her of assault on board.
During a court appearance on the additional charges, Blair’s attorney urged the judge to consider her extensive body of work and described her as the “gold standard,” but the judge ruled she should not receive special treatment.
Blair has entered a not‑guilty plea and has been released on bail.
She was taken to a hospital following the incident, and her representatives told the BBC that she had experienced a medical emergency that precipitated the alleged conduct.
When the flight landed in New York Sunday evening, airport officials responded to a report of a physically abusive passenger; two flight attendants were injured, and one was taken to the hospital, according to the New York Port Authority.
Air traffic control recordings captured the pilot requesting medical assistance, noting a bloody nose and bite marks, as reported by CBS News and the BBC’s US News partner.
At 54, Blair—who also appeared in *Cruel Intentions* and *Hellboy*—was arrested and taken to the hospital, and she received a federal summons alleging assault under the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States.
The two additional assault charges, filed in state court, were brought after she was removed from the aircraft.
One alleged assault occurred while she was being transported in an ambulance, during which she is said to have kicked a police officer; at the hospital, prosecutors allege she also assaulted a nurse.
