[Dallas Stars Sign David Perron to One-Year Contract]
The Dallas Stars have signed forward David Perron to a one-year contract, according to Elliotte Friedman. The deal is worth $850,000.
Perron Signs With the Stars
Perron split last season between the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings. Across those 65 games, he scored 13 goals and added 15 assists. The Red Wings acquired him at the trade deadline to help them pursue a playoff push, though the team ultimately fell short of achieving the goal. Now returning to Detroit for his second stint, Perron managed just three goals in 16 games this segment.
Career So Far
The Red Wings are not the only team Perron has had multiple stints with. He has also played for the St. Louis Blues three separate times. Originally drafted by the organization in 2007, he was traded in 2013, re-sIGNED in 2016, selected in the 2018 Expansion Draft, and later re-signed with the Blues before departing again in 2022. With the Blues, he helped lead the squad to the Stanley Cup championship in 2019.
Role With His New Team
During his primes, Perron easily anchored the top six of any lineup. However, at age 38, he carries a legacy behind diminishing production. Following his time with the Red Wings, where he operated primarily on the third line, Perron is expected to sustain that role in Dallas, though flexibility could allow movement up to the second unit when needed.
On the power play, Perron has historically been productive despite low total goal totals. Although he scored only three goals last season, his ability to generate offensive opportunities could add value if given priority. Importantly, Perron has never excelled defensively; his greatest contributions come from helping create offense elsewhere in the lineup. For the Stars, it represents a calculated risk—signing a forward who has not netted 15 or more goals since the 2023-24 campaign—but the team still values the 2020 All-Star talent and continues to watch closely.
