Jasprit Bumrah will skip the ODI series but rejoin the Test squad to lead India’s pace attack in the upcoming New Zealand tour starting November 19 in Wellington. Bumrah, who last played a Test in November 2025, is part of a strategic rotation plan aimed at ensuring his readiness for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and 2027 ODI World Cup. He is currently training in Ahmedabad and will report to the BCCI’s Bengaluru Centre of Excellence before departing for New Zealand.
Following his recovery from a side strain sustained during the Irani Cup, wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant is expected to feature in the third unofficial Test against New Zealand A in Lincoln (November 7-10). Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Anshul Kamboj are also likely participants in the match.

Prasidh Krishna’s ODI participation remains pending medical clearance, though scans confirm a mild left hamstring strain rather than a tear. He is undergoing rehabilitation and strength training. Akash Deep and Anshul Kamboj re-enter the Test squad after strong performances in the Irani Cup and Ranji Trophy, respectively. The pace attack is further bolstered by Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Manav Suthar, despite a 16-wicket haul in Sri Lanka, misses selection as India opts for two spin-bowling allrounders in Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar alongside Kuldeep Yadav. B Sai Sudharsan returns to the squad as potential backup batter following a toe injury setback, having recently recovered in the Puducherry series against Australia A.
Iyer to Lead India in Final Two ODIs
Shreyas Iyer assumes ODI captaincy for matches four and five, while Gill leads the first three ODIs. Rahul and Kamboj will also transition from the initial games to the Test buildup. Former ODI squad member Jadeja remains with the Test team. Wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra earns his maiden call-up, and Auqib Nabi joins for the final two ODIs after debuting against West Indies.
Arshdeep Singh returns to the ODI XI after featuring only in the T20I series, with his last ODI appearance coming in July’s England series.
