The new collaboration between Kid Rock and Eminem has drawn widespread attention. Although the two artists have been friends for decades, their political views are starkly opposed—Kid Rock is a vocal MAGA supporter, while Eminem has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump. In a recent post, Eminem addressed his decision to work with the controversial figure.
“Not about choosing sides, just choosing to make music with my old friend. Praying for all of us,” Eminem wrote about “Heal My Faith,” a track from Kid Rock’s new Christian album, Halfway 2 Jesus. In his verse, Eminem raps, “From shock rap to the rock rap, my homie and me / He is my brother, not my political enemy.”
In an interview with Billboard, Kid Rock said of Eminem, “We’ve been friends for, like, 40 years. I really didn’t want to drag him into my political world. We talk about politics a little bit, not a ton. There’s a lot we agree on, and we can laugh about what we don’t. That’s why I asked him to write a verse for me.”
This marks another chapter in their long-standing creative relationship. Eminem previously featured on Kid Rock’s 1998 song “Fuck Off” from Devil Without a Cause, and Kid Rock appeared in Eminem’s 2013 music video for “Berzerk.”
Last month, Kid Rock was scheduled to speak at a MAGA festival in Kentucky, but the event was canceled after only six VIP tickets were sold.
