Trudeau did not specify whether the government anticipates an increase in the death toll.
The identities of the deceased have not been released, though their families have been notified.
Saturday evening saw Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton activate a code orange, a disaster response protocol for high-casualty incidents, which was subsequently deactivated Sunday afternoon.

The statement emphasized that ongoing care for the injured will be intensive.
A continuous influx of ambulances arrived at the hospital, with a physician reporting to CBC that the facility was ‘completely overwhelmed’ by patient volume.
