A Barron’s Roundtable panel discussed Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s announcement regarding his plan to distribute SpaceX shares to children in the United States.
Elon Musk announced that he will give every child in America one share of SpaceX next year, indicating that this initiative could be the start of additional distributions.
“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every child in America. This will be the first of many,” he wrote on X.
The pledge follows Anthropic’s announcement of plans to allocate part of its equity to public‑benefit initiatives.

On Sunday, Musk urged Anthropic to distribute its shares directly to the public after the company outlined its plans for the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund.

Anthropic announced that it will allocate a portion of its shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a wholly owned entity dedicated to public benefit. The fund will initially receive 5% of the company’s shares, with up to an additional 2% contributed for each 50% increase in the company’s value above a baseline, subject to board discretion. In total, roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are earmarked for the public good.

In response, Musk recommended that Anthropic give its shares directly to the public.
He indicated that he intends to follow the same approach with SpaceX shares.
“This is what I will be doing,” he added in another post.
Musk reiterated his intention to distribute SpaceX shares to American children on Monday, though he did not disclose specifics regarding the implementation.
