Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey has frequently matched up against Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, a pairing he admits he would prefer to avoid. In their nine career meetings—eight in the regular season and one playoff contest—Chase has amassed 77 catches for 1,245 yards and eight touchdowns against Humphrey.
The Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals will clash again this Sunday, with Humphrey acknowledging the daunting task of limiting explosive plays from both Chase and teammate Tee Higgins. “It would be great not to face him as often,” Humphrey said. “He’s clearly one of the best in the league. Tee is right there with him—Top 10 in my opinion. The key is winning more battles than they do and suppressing their big plays. When you’re covering elite receivers, every play matters. It’ll be an all-in, must-win game, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Despite the lopsided statistics in Chase’s favor, Humphrey conveyed strong confidence ahead of the game. “I’m very confident,” he stated. “We’ve faced tough tests this season, but this will be our biggest test yet.”
If Chase’s historical performance is any indication, Sunday’s matchup will present an uphill climb for Humphrey and the Ravens’ secondary. The winner will likely control the AFC North division race.
