ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, warned on Monday that Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures if Afghan territory is used for terrorist activities inside Pakistan, according to state media.
Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have deteriorated amid a surge in militant attacks within Pakistan, particularly in the border provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan.
Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Tehreek‑e‑Talibān Pakistan (TTP) and other groups of using Afghan soil to plan and execute cross‑border assaults, a claim Kabul denies.
This year, Pakistan’s military conducted multiple airstrikes on what it described as militant targets in Afghanistan, following a series of bombings; the Taliban authorities have contested these allegations.
“Pakistan has the right to take all necessary measures if Afghan territory is used for terrorist activities in Pakistan,” Chaudhry was quoted by Radio Pakistan.
He called on Afghan authorities to meet their responsibilities and put an end to cross‑border infiltration, though Kabul has not yet responded to the statement.
The warning came a day after Pakistan’s military reported that two soldiers and six TTP militants were killed during a counter‑terror operation in KP’s Dera Ismail Khan district.
In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for the successful operation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completely eliminating terrorism from the country.
