Jimmy Kimmel reacted to the U.S. midterm elections by comparing Republican losses to the infamous Game of Thrones Red Wedding.
Millions of voters turned out to the polls for Tuesday’s, November 3, midterm elections and delivered a sharp rebuke to President Donald Trump, his policies, and the Republican candidates he supported.
In what was referred to as the “Blue Wave,” Democrats won eight Senate seats previously held by Republicans – including seats in Texas, Ohio, Georgia and Iowa – and took control of the chamber. Trump accepted the results via his Truth Social platform but blamed the extensive losses on the fact that his name was not an option on the ballot, saying that if it had been, they “would have won in a landslide.” Much of the voter anger is said to come from the rising cost of living and fuel caused by Trump’s conflict with Iran.
Famous faces have since taken to social media to respond to the results, with US chat host Jimmy Kimmel using his show to predict that the aftermath would be like the fatal “Red Wedding” in HBO’s Game of Thrones – the memorable season three episode that saw multiple main characters ambushed and killed.
“After all the talk about Nicki Minaj’s ass, Jon Husted’s ass…the only ass on Trump’s mind tonight is the one that just got handed to him,” Kimmel said.
“What we do know for sure is that Democrats have officially taken the House. Thanks to President Trump. Blob Vila flipped another House! The blue wave made landfall, and now the Red Wedding begins.”
The comments about Nicki Minaj refer to how the rapper has thrown her support behind Trump over the past year and made a guest appearance at one of his recent rallies, where the president made a comment about her “beautiful” and “hard to miss” backside.
Kimmel has been a vocal opponent of Trump for years, making jokes about him while hosting the Oscars in 2024 and sharing an emotional statement the night after he won that year’s Presidential election.
“It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go,” he said, later adding: “It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him, too, you just don’t realise it yet.”
Last year, he went on to address the criticism he got from Trump supporters after making the comments, saying that he found it “kind of funny”, and then took aim at Trump again during his acceptance speech at the Critics’ Choice Awards at the start of the year.
ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! in September 2025, after the host accused the MAGA movement of attempting to exploit the murder of Charlie Kirk. Trump celebrated the news of the show being axed, however it was reinstated after just six days after an outcry from the entertainment industry, and saw its ratings quadruple as a result.
Other famous faces to react to the midterm election included Bette Midler who said she was “overjoyed” by the results, Henry Winkler who wrote that it proved “dreams do come true”, and The Chicks, who performed holding red fans that read “Fuck Trump”.
