ISLAMABAD: The Power Division said on Saturday that industrial electricity tariffs have been lowered by about Rs18.94 per unit compared to March 2024, according to state media reports.
The Power Division issued its statement in response to recent media reports that NEPRA had revised the Incremental Support Package (ISP) rate to Rs25.30 per unit. According to Dawn, two key board members responsible for tariff and development policy voiced strong opposition to the decision.
On Saturday, the Power Division emphasized that industrial electricity tariffs have not been raised, dismissing reports to the contrary as “misleading and factually incorrect,” the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.
A spokesperson explained that the Rs25.30 per unit figure referenced in some headlines represents the revised marginal rate under the Incremental Consumption Package for industrial and agricultural users, not the industrial tariff.
He added that the industrial electricity tariff has been cut by roughly Rs18.94 per unit, inclusive of taxes, relative to the March 2024 level.
The spokesperson noted that the average industrial rate in October 2026 was Rs34.40 per kWh before taxes, and explained that the package is being adjusted because marginal generation costs have risen amid the ongoing conflict.
He clarified that the increase in the incremental package is temporary, with the revised marginal rates set to take effect from November 2026.
Industrial manufacturers in Pakistan have long lamented high electricity costs, arguing that they have stifled growth and undermined the global competitiveness of local products.
