- Urged Washington to accept Iran’s previously stated demands or face a decisive military response from our alert and battle‑hardened forces.
Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Sunday that mediation efforts between the United States and Iran have not progressed since the shock of the recent U.S. midterm elections.
“He said it will take time for the United States to absorb the election results before the parties can determine how to proceed,” he told state television after Trump’s Republican Party incurred significant losses in the recent midterm elections.
Regional states such as Qatar and Pakistan have been attempting for several months, without success, to achieve a definitive cease‑fire to the conflict that began in February between the United States and Israel.
While major combat has largely ceased, Iran persists in its efforts to block the Strait of Hormuz—a critical artery for global energy transport—while the U.S. Navy enforces a counterblockade of Iranian ports.
Mediator travel has ceased for several days, primarily due to the astonishment generated by the U.S. election outcome.
He noted that it will take time before conditions become favorable for resuming mediator travel and urged patience.
Earlier, Araghchi posted on X, stating, “American voters have made their choice; now it is up to the White House to act.”
He urged Washington to accept Iran’s previously stated demands or risk a war in which our vigilant, battle‑ready forces would respond decisively.
In September, Iran put forward a seven‑day initiative to reopen the strait, demanding an end to hostilities on all fronts, the unfreezing of Iranian assets, the lifting of oil sanctions, and the termination of the counter‑blockade of Iranian ports.
The proposal was later refined to a two‑day timetable, a point Araghchi reiterated in his X post on Sunday.
