Production Delay for Framework Laptop 13 Pro
During the ramp-up for mass production of the Framework Laptop 13 Pro, the company identified two critical issues affecting the new haptic touchpad and the custom display. While root causes have been identified and solutions developed, implementing these fixes requires a shift in the production timeline. Consequently, the first batch of shipments, originally slated for late June, is now expected in late July, with some units potentially arriving in early August. This shift will likely push most July shipments into August. Framework expects to align with its original schedule by August, though there is a slight risk that the final August batches may move into early September. The company does not anticipate further cascading delays beyond that window.
Framework emphasizes its commitment to robustness and reliability over a rushed release. Customers whose pre-orders are no longer viable due to this new timeline are eligible for a full refund of their deposit. In the interim, shipments of the new Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Mainboards will proceed on schedule, and modules that do not include the touchpad or display will also be launched as planned.
Haptic Touchpad Development
Framework’s goal for the haptic touchpad has been to deliver a seamless user experience, a target supported by positive early feedback from Computex and launch event testing. Achieving this required extensive iteration across mechanical, electrical, and firmware designs, including dozens of internal firmware releases to refine force uniformity and click behavior.
Recently, the team discovered rare bugs on certain units that caused the touchpad to reset after repeated clicking. In collaboration with suppliers Lite-On and Boréas, an electrical grounding issue in the PCB design was identified. While firmware mitigations were attempted, testing revealed that the failure mode persisted at a higher rate than during development. As a result, Framework is holding production to implement a new PCB design for all shipments. Initial samples have successfully resolved the issue and are currently undergoing rigorous validation, including 200,000-click stress tests. These new modules are expected at the final assembly factory in mid-July, with other sub-assemblies already in production to ensure a rapid assembly and testing phase.
Display Production Updates
During the mass production ramp of the new display, a bug was discovered that prevented the panel from initializing on one unit. The supplier, CSOT, determined this was an edge case related to initialization parameters. An updated display firmware is now entering production. This correction is expected to fit within the existing haptic touchpad timeline and will not further delay the laptop’s overall schedule; however, it does push display-only pre-order shipments from June to July.
Mainboard Shipments and Memory Availability
The Framework Laptop 13 Pro Mainboard featuring the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 will begin shipping on time in June. While full system press reviews are now moved to July, Mainboard customers can refer to existing hands-on videos and general reviews of the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors.
Additionally, in response to customer feedback regarding the limited retail availability of LPCAMM2 memory, Framework is allowing customers to add memory to their existing Mainboard pre-orders via the Support team. Adding memory to a June batch order may cause a slight shipment delay. Future pre-orders will include a bundle option to simplify memory selection.
Framework apologizes for the delay, stating that the “Pro” designation represents a commitment to higher performance and refinement, and the final product must meet those standards. The company will provide further updates as mass production commences.
