Guitarist Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, DJ Carl Cox, and broadcaster Cerys Matthews have been included in the King’s Birthday Honours list.
The annual honors recognize individuals across the UK for their contributions to society, spanning arts, sports, science, public service, and charity.
Iommi, celebrated for his musical legacy and charitable efforts, has been appointed an MBE, while Matthews, known for her role in Catatonia and media appearances, received an OBE. Former Catatonia frontwoman Matthews previously held an MBE since 2014.
Cox, 63, hailed as a seminal figure in UK club culture for four decades, was awarded an OBE. He also hosted BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix series for years. “I’m deeply honored to receive this recognition, which belongs to the entire community that shaped my journey—fans, artists, promoters, and my family,” he stated. “Music has been my life, and this joy is humbling,” he added.
Matthews, who presented on BBC 6 Music, Radio 2, and Radio 4, continues to honor her Welsh roots while promoting diverse cultural narratives.
Iommi, who recently teased a 2026 solo album release, also featured on Robbie Williams’ ‘Rocket’ and was granted the Freedom of Birmingham alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates. “Music has connected me to countless people and charities, and I’m immensely grateful. Thank you, Tony (MBE!)” he wrote on social media.
Notable others honored included children’s authors Julia Donaldson and Malorie Blackman, actor Helen Mirren (Companion of Honour), and Aardman Animations founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton.
