DUBAI, June 14 (Reuters) – A senior Iranian official told Reuters that a final draft memorandum of understanding with the United States covers several key issues, including Tehran’s nuclear program, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. waivers on oil sanctions. A final agreement would be discussed over 60 days after both sides approve the draft.
The official said the proposed memorandum includes the following points:
Strait of Hormuz:
Iran would immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels, while the United States would lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports.
Financial measures:
The United States would agree not to impose any new sanctions on Iran until a final deal is reached.
Washington would waive oil sanctions on Iran for a specified period, allowing Tehran to sell oil and receive revenue.
The United States would release $25 billion in frozen Iranian assets through direct cash transfers, cooperation with regional countries and financial credit lines.
Nuclear commitments:
Tehran would commit not to produce or acquire nuclear weapons.
Iran would maintain the current nuclear status quo until a final deal is reached, including by refraining from uranium enrichment and avoiding expansion of nuclear facilities.
* The United States would agree that Tehran dilute its stockpile of highly enriched uranium inside Iran, with a mechanism for carrying this out to be discussed within 60 days.
