Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy announced on Saturday that he will undergo back surgery on Thursday, when the team has a scheduled rest day, and a hip procedure during the upcoming All-Star break.
He stated that he does not anticipate missing any games.
According to Murphy, the back discomfort stems from the hip problem. While he did not disclose specifics of the surgeries, he noted that the pain has intensified.
Murphy, a two‑time National League Manager of the Year, is currently in his third season leading the Brewers, who tops the NL Central.
At 67 years old, Murphy entered Saturday with a 235‑162 record in Milwaukee and a career major‑league managerial record of 277‑216, including a 42‑54 record with San Diego in 2015.
He was seated in a chair in the Brewers’ dugout during Friday night’s 3‑2 loss to Atlanta, the opening game of a weekend series. The team will play three games at Cincinnati on Monday through Wednesday, have Thursday off, and then begin a seven‑game homestand.
