President Donald Trump asserted on Tuesday that Iran has consented to “the highest level” of nuclear inspections, even as Iranian officials contest this assertion, underscoring the persistent disagreements despite a tentative understanding.
In a social‑media post on Tuesday morning, Trump declared, “Despite their protestations and false statements to the contrary … Iran has fully and completely agreed to the highest level of nuclear inspections for an indefinite future (Infinity!!!),” insisting that this will guarantee “Nuclear Honesty.”
He added that such an inspection regime would ensure “Nuclear Honesty,” and warned that without it, further negotiations would be impossible.
Trump stated that, based on this agreement, he would keep the strategic Strait of Hormuz open, though he reserves the option to reinstate a US naval blockade, a move he considers “highly unlikely” at this stage.
His remarks followed statements by Iran’s United Nations ambassador, Ali Bahreini, who informed reporters that Tehran has not yet consented to the deployment of IAEA inspectors to monitor its nuclear activities.
He noted that a working group, which has yet to be convened, will deliberate on whether inspectors will be permitted to travel to Iran.
