Migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border are not entitled to apply for asylum until they set foot in the United States, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday.
The 6‑3 decision opens the door for the administration to reinstate a policy that permits federal agents at the border to return asylum seekers before they cross into the country. The case centered on interpreting immigration statutes that require a noncitizen to “arrive in” the United States before being eligible to seek asylum.
