Highways were blocked off and security forces deployed across Kenya’s capital on Thursday ahead of a protest marking the more than 60 people killed during the June 25, 2024 demonstrations.
“Down with killings, down! Down with police killings, down!” [Chanting] Protesters said the police are trying to stifle the demonstration, deploying more officers than participants to create the appearance of no turnout. They called for justice, noting that each time Kenyans take to the streets, innocent lives are lost because the officers responsible are neither arrested nor held accountable.
