India opener Shafali Verma rebounded with a sparkling half‑century against Bangladesh in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, yet she admitted she was not fully satisfied with her performance.
After a slow start to the tournament, Verma struck 53 runs off 34 balls at a strike rate of 155.88, providing a solid platform for India’s chase of 137. The team reached the target in just 16.5 overs, strengthening their position in Group A.
The 22‑year‑old was instrumental in India’s aggressive start, helping the side amass 63 runs in the powerplay—the highest powerplay total in the tournament’s history. Despite the impact of her innings, Verma expressed disappointment at not seeing out the chase.
“Very happy with how I batted today. But if I was not out, that would make me even happier. I felt good confidence and was glad to get runs, yet I’m also sad about the way I got out,” Verma said after the match.
She also highlighted a simple conversation with her batting partner during the chase, emphasizing a plan to take scoring opportunities without over‑thinking.
“Nothing fancy, just backing our batting. If a loose ball comes, we go for a four or maybe a six; otherwise we take a single. It’s just a normal chat, nothing special,” she explained.
Verma added that her innings was built on patience and selective shot‑making, stressing the importance of playing deliveries in her scoring zones.
“I try to pick the right ball. If it’s in my zone, I attack; otherwise, I take a single. It sounds simple, but it can get complicated. I talked to myself a lot this time, and I’m happy with how it went,” she said.
Her return to form provides a crucial boost for India as they approach the knockout stages of the tournament.
