Former Red Sox manager Alex Cora has praised the team’s recent relief effort for victims of the recent devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.
On Saturday, the Red Sox launched a fundraising drive, enlisting players, staff members, and their families to collect donations for earthquake‑affected communities in Venezuela. The initiative is scheduled to continue through Wednesday.
Among those contributing were veteran infielder Carlos Narváez and catcher Willson Contreras, both of Venezuelan descent. The players gathered donations on Jersey Street before Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees, and the Red Sox shared photos on their official X account. Cora, who was dismissed from his managerial role in late April, responded to the post, writing, “Not surprised,” he added, “That’s how the Red Sox do it.”
Cora was spotted in the area over the weekend, visiting a pizzeria in Newport, Rhode Island. At the time of reporting, there was no indication that he attended a Red Sox game.
After completing a four‑game sweep of the Yankees, Boston will host the Washington Nationals for a three‑game series before embarking on an extended road trip.
