Following a remarkable theatrical run, the horror breakout “Obsession” is now available for home viewing via video-on-demand services. The film, which resonated strongly with both audiences and critics, can be rented or purchased digitally through platforms including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.
Purchasing the title unlocks bonus extras not included with the rental option. The film is priced at $19.99 to rent and $24.99 to buy. For collectors, a physical media rollout encompassing 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats is scheduled for July 14. A streaming debut date remains unannounced; as a Focus Features release under Universal Pictures, the title is widely expected to eventually land on Peacock.
Written, directed, and edited by Curry Barker in his feature debut, “Obsession” has become a box office phenomenon, grossing over $370 million worldwide against a reported budget of just $750,000. The story centers on Bear (Michael Johnston), whose desperate infatuation with coworker Nikki (Inde Navarrette) leads him to a novelty “One Wish Willow.” His wish for her love is granted with monstrous consequences, as Nikki’s resulting obsession destroys friendships, her own well-being, and leaves a trail of grisly fallout.
The premise operates as a modern, unsettling twist on the classic “monkey’s paw” trope. Barker has cited a “Treehouse of Horror” episode of “The Simpsons” as a key inspiration. The success of “Obsession,” alongside titles like “Backrooms”—both original horror efforts helmed by directors under 30 with YouTube backgrounds—has sparked industry discussion regarding a emerging Gen-Z horror renaissance. As Rolling Stone’s David Fear noted, the moment appears poised to evolve into a bona fide movement.

Looking ahead, Barker’s next project, “Anything But Ghosts,” is set to star Aaron Paul and Bryce Dallas Howard. The filmmaker has also teased that his sophomore effort will unfold within the same universe established by “Obsession.”
